This months theme is “Movie Recreation” and we’re challenging the community to recreate scenes from their favourite films using their collection of toys and a little imagination. This time its the turn of Alex Davis sharing his work :
Solo : A Star Wars Story
Now my scene is not a direct recreation of a specific movie scene but it was inspired by the Mimban war sequence in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
I knew this shot was going to require mud, lots of it, so in my garden i found a patch of ground that had been cleared ready for planting. I started with a rough trench and added water to make lots of squelchy mud. I had a piece of foamboard in the background to hide the bushes and to match the environment as depicted in the movie. The difficulty I faced was that I only have two Hasbro The Black Series Mimban Stormtroopers. I started with the trooper in the trench, he was the main focus and then placed the trooper just behind him. Then the tricky part. I then moved the troopers around, taking additional photos at every stage. This then allowed me to go to Photoshop and merge the image together, creating the effect if multiple troopers.
I used a digital smoke effect brush that I have used in my previous shots to add a touch of mist. Without it, the foamboard looked just like a white board. It also helped to create depth to the image. The final part was to add the blaster bolts as no war scene works without them.
The behind the scenes images I have included depict some B Side shots I created.
