HOW TO : ARMOUR LIGHTS

Written by | Featured, Tutorials

The following article explains one of many solutions how to create armour lights. As usual there are many different possibilities to create this image improving effect.

No deeper knowledge is necessary since it’s a very basic tutorial and made to give help in opening the door to further experiments.

To start you will need:

  • The picture you wish to edit
  • Adobe Photoshop or a similar editing software

Our first move is to load the original picture into the editing software. Create a new layer and name it (this is helpful if you have several layers).

ExcluArmorStartPic (1 von 1)

Select a brush (i prefer soft brushes) and choose a colour (here it’s light blue for the arc reactor).

Paint the area which is illuminated in the final picture.

  •  Hint: try several brushes, sizes and colours so you get a feeling for the right brush

Set the blending mode to “screen”.

  • Hint: the blending modes can cause many different results and effects which may could be useful too

Create a new layer and set blending mode to “overlay” and select your brush again (this time the soft brush is essential).

Use the brush to paint a “dot” above the first layer and transform (cmd+t) to extend the dot. The area where you painted both layers should now be glowing.

Repeat the steps for more parts like glowing eyes and/or lamps.

After your done with all the steps you can “flatten image”, do some final edits and export the picture.

Of course the are more effective and elegant ways to make areas glow but as an easy start this process is a good base to start with.

Always remember : Practice is the best way to improve your skills.
