Quiet guys! You see these tracks? It means we are following a… nah, who am I kidding? I’ll make a terrible hunter! So it’s me, Julien, I’m an e-learning and serious game designer from Toulouse, France. Some may say that I’m a geek, but I prefer to define myself as a pop culture enthusiast!
As a child born in the early 80s, I had the chance to grow up with fantastic toy lines allowing me to relive and/or extend the stories of my heroes’ universes, such as Batman, TMNT, Ghostbusters, Jurassic Park, and so many more… Even if I have only started my collection recently, I’ve never lost interest in this industry. I started toy photography nearly 3 years ago just for fun, but little by little, I have been thrilled by the possibilities and all the artistic side that comes along (even if it’s hard to dedicate it a lot of time as I’m a father of 5 year-old twins).
So here I am today, proudly presenting a theme shot named “The Hunts”.
As I received the instruction for the shot, the theme of hunting came to me quite quickly. I like the fact that it’s a broad subject that can endorse different meanings related to the situation. I know that I barely scratched the surface, but I tried to explore obvious aspects and some others, maybe less usual.
I hope you’ll enjoy it, and don’t forget, be careful! We’re following some wild specimen down here!
Our beloved smuggler finds himself in a difficult situation here, trying to escape a Tie fighter. I was inspired by the famous chasing scene of the movie North by Northwest by Hitchcock for this shot.
Here is a scene I shot in a forest nearby. I wished to represent the idea of being tracked and trapped here. The explosion effects are the result of my first attempt with cracking balls.
I have a bad feeling about this!
Here comes the perfect killing machine, the xenomorph. It was impossible to deal with a hunting theme without bringing him in. Will the Force still be with her?
Still warm, he’s close…
How not to mention a bounty hunter in a theme about hunt! I’m a big fan of Tamashii work, more particularly, their Movie Realization series. The mix between Star Wars and feudal Japan universes is quite a great idea and I really love the result. That was a “family” picture, as my kids wanted to help me, they throw the earth to the figure to help me get the dust in the picture. The coals came from the barbecue my brother in law was making.
Space Stone’s final destination
In order to acquire the ultimate power, Thanos tracks and hunts all the possessors of the Infinity Stones. Here he is, facing Loki to get the Space Stone, the only one missing on his gauntlet…
One way or another, it ends tonight
Batman, The Animated Series has a special place in my heart. This is what sealed my love for the Dark Knight (right after its discovery through Burton and Keaton). Mask of the Phantasm is one of the best movies about Batman ever made. The Phantasm has a very specific agenda, tracking and executing the persons related to a certain event.
The hunt is not always related to execution and death. And I think that Link, through his fantastic adventures, is the ideal symbol of the Treasure hunt.
A huge thank you goes to Julient for showcasing his work first on Exclu and with such a confident entry in our exclusive shoot resource. Be sure to check out more of his work over on Instagram via @tonn_ju and for more from the toy community, stay tuned to Exclu.
