Star Wars fans, Force Friday 2, which to me is technically Force Friday 3 — I guess Rogue One’s toy extravaganza doesn’t count in Disney’s eyes — has officially come and gone. If you’re reading this, you probably participated in the event, or at least followed it closely in your social feeds as you watched your fellow collectors decimate their bank accounts to score some of the first releases of the new Star Wars: The Last Jedi toy lines.
Being a Star Wars fan since birth, and a collector of toys soon after my exit from the womb, I naturally joined in on the Force Friday fun, and came away with a mighty haul. One may argue, at least my wife, that my obsession with these toys is limiting my ability to ever retire, but it’s Star Wars, and with Star Wars there are no boundaries.
Anyway, I actually participated in a midnight opening at Target, and I’m glad I did, because when I resumed my Force Friday hunt during normal business hours, most of the good stuff was already gone. I dropped more cash than I want to admit, but I pretty got everything I wanted, so there is once again balance with the Force.
Out of all of the collectibles I picked up it’s hard to nail down just five that I consider to be the gems of the hauls, so I’ll do my best to break down five of the most precious items I scored.
Wish me luck, away we go! For reference there is no preferred rank, I’m just listing five of my top Force Friday pickups.
HeywoodPOP’s Top 5 Force Friday Hauls
1. Rey and Luke Black Series Figures
Yes, I can count, so I realize I’ve listed two figures as one score, but I consider these pieces to be a bundle considering they’re the same ones offered in the SDCC exclusive from July. How can someone who loves Star Wars, shooting Star Wars toys, and the Skywalker family not include these figures in a Top 5 Force Friday list. Both sculpts are pretty damn detailed, and the Luke is a figure we’ve all wanted since we saw him at the end of TFA, so it feels good to finally have him in my collection. He and Rey will definitely make for some great shots.
2. Luke and his Speeder
I really wanted to lump Rey’s speeder in here too, but I don’t want to be accused for being too wishy-washy, so I went with the Black Series vehicle that I consider to be the best out of the two. This is another bundle I wanted from SDCC, so I’m glad to finally have the ghetto version of that offering. Even without the SDCC bonus features, I still find this vehicle set to be stellar. Both the speeder and Luke look movie correct, and they’ll provide for more than a few fun shoots. I’ve loved what I’ve seen from the toy photography community so far in regards to this figure and vehicle, so I can’t wait to get out and create my own.
3. Black Series Thrawn
Is anyone else noticing a trend here? I’m basically listing all of the SDCC exclusives as my top Force Friday hauls, so if you haven’t guessed already, I really wanted these figures a month ago, but I had to wait for the general releases. I hate not having Thrawn’s SDCC diorama and props, but the figure itself is still a thing of beauty. I think he’s already become one of my favorite new Black Series releases of 2017, because he’s just sculpted and painted perfectly for a $20 action figure. I can’t wait to fire up the old digirama screen to take some shots of this badass Black Series figure.
4. Black Series Snoke with Throne Exclusive
Now I don’t have this GameStop exclusive in hand, but he is pre-ordered, so I’m basing my ranking of him on a picture. I’m just obsessed with all things Snoke, so that is one reason this dude and his throne are on my list, but I think he’s a cool looking character as well. Overall, this exclusive is desirable for the prop, so I can’t wait to digirama Snoke in throne once he shows up, and he better GameStop! Just kidding, you’ve never failed me in the past.
5. SHF Rey
This is another Force Friday score that I’m waiting on to release later this fall, but I did order it on Force Friday, so it counts! As with any figure from the SH Figuarts line this Rey is as close as you’re going to get to having your own mini-Daisy Ridley. The face sculpt and paint job are to die for, so this is hands down the best looking Rey 6-inch figure to date. The Mafex version is up there, but due to the build quality of that figure, I have to give the edge to this upcoming SH Figuarts Rey as she appears in The Last Jedi. This is a figure that I’m truly excited about to shoot, because it’ll be the first Rey shoot where the subject doesn’t look off.
