Josiah Greer returns to take on another themed shoot here at Exclu as he tackles a series entitled “In The End”. The shoot focuses on the demise and unravelling of characters from across the Star Wars Expanded Universe from Saw Gerrera to Jacen Solo.
I recently got the info for my themed shoot for Exclu Media and was tasked with taking pictures that I felt expressed the theme “In the End”. This news came just days after the passing of Linkin Park front man Chester Bennington, something that hit many LP fans very hard, myself included.
I immediately had numerous ideas for the shoot and got to work, I hope you’ll enjoy them as much as I enjoyed shooting them!
For this shoot, I wanted to touch on a few different ways the theme could be interpreted, based on not just the phrase itself, but from the lyrics of Linkin Park’s hit song as well.
This idea and image comes directly from Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith.
Anakin has fallen to the Dark Side and abandoned everything he ever knew and loved to save his wife, Padme Amidala, from death. But just like the lyrics of Linkin Park, he may’ve tried hard and made a lot of effort, but in the end, it didn’t even matter. His fall is futile, with Padme dying and Anakin forcing his old master, Obi Wan Kenobi, to engage him in a duel that changes every aspect of his life forever.
“It was so artfully done.”
This idea takes us back to the “Heir to The Empire” trilogy by Timothy Zahn.
Thrawn’s introduction into Star Wars revitalized the Star Wars fandom in a way we’ve only seen a handful of times. Thrawn was something new and different. He didn’t rage in defeat like Vader, he studied art, he was an alien with blue skin and red eyes; he was refreshing.
Thrawn took a crumbling Empire against the New Republic, and had even the likes of Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa-Solo on their heals with his amazing tactical ability. Sadly though, it was Thrawn’s own confidant and bodyguard, Rukh, who killed Thrawn via assassination.
Always one to see the irony and beauty in every situation, Thrawn’s last words were, “But it was so artfully done.”
Thrawn was overthrown and the Empire would never fully recover.
“Save the Rebellion, save the dream.”
One thing that’s beautiful about Saw Gerrera’s death is his resolve.
He decides: “I will run no longer”, but that doesn’t mean his life was lived in vain; he passes the torch of the Rebellion against the Empire to Jyn Erso. Here we see Saw walking out of his hideout on Jedha, pulling off his breathing apparatus in one last moment of defiance just before his death.
“You may fire when ready.”
This particular title is a two-part feature.
First we see Director Orson Krennic standing on the platform of the information tower on Scarif as the beast he so desperately willed to life breaks above the horizon.
In a moment, his life’s work and ambitions turn on him as his arch-rival, Grand Moff Tarkin (second picture), uses the Death Star to erase Krennic from the face of the galaxy.
In his image.
As a young adult I stumbled upon the book series “Legacy of The Force” & to this day it’s been one of my favorite Star Wars works!
This was my introduction to the Solo twins, and as I read further and further into the 9 book series, my heart broke over and over again as Jacen Solo, grandson of Darth Vader, followed the Dark Lord’s path, with his end being not dissimilar to that of his grandfather.
Jacen senses a looming darkness coming toward the galaxy and feels it is his destiny to turn to the Dark Side in order to save the galaxy from it’s fate. Much like Anakin, Jacen is blinded by fear of the future and falls completely to darkness. In this photo we see Jacen’s ultimate fate as his twin sister, Jaina, is forced to end the madness that has spread across the galaxy by ending Jacen, himself.
