The dust has settled in Orlando after the hordes of Star Wars fans descended on the annual Star Wars Celebration and now is a great time to catch up on the top news and highlights courtesy of Exclu regular Dale Schenck.
It’s been a few weeks since Star Wars Celebration and by now a lot of the hype has died down, but if you were one of over 70,000 fans lucky enough to be there in person, the memories haven’t died at all. Whether you were there for toys, panels, cosplay or just to chill with Wookiees, there was something for everyone.
First and foremost, I’ve gotta say that Star Wars fans are CRAZY! I mean that in the best way possible, I’ve been to a lot of comic cons and there are a lot of really dedicated fans out there in the Marvel and DC realm… But nothing compares to a Star Wars fan, if you’ve ever been to a Celebration before, you know exactly what I mean. Which leads me to my favorite part of Star Wars Celebration, the cosplayers!
It doesn’t matter who your favorite Star Wars character is, you could find about twelve people in amazing cosplay outfits that were more than willing to take their picture with you, while you stand there slack jawed and drooling over how great of a job they did on their stitching patterns. And while you were still catching your breath you’d quickly stumble upon a life size TIE fighter, or a Jabba the Hutt that you could just hop up on and do your best slave Leia impression.
By this point you’re asking yourself why they don’t just have this year round, I mean, you could just set up a tent near by and live there, right? Well, that probably wouldn’t be the best financial move on your part because you just noticed all the exclusive toys for sale. I’m willing to bet that at least a few people have gotten divorced over how much money they spent at any given Star Wars Celebration. It seemed like anywhere you looked there were more awesome toys that you “had to have.” At my first Celebration two years ago in Anaheim, I spent over $3,000 just at the convention itself… I really wish that was a joke, but it’s not.
Anyway, if you were one other responsible adults at the convention, I applaud you. @bluefinbrands revealed a few new samurai to their Star Wars line… I had to walk away before I got a brain aneurysm from how pumped I was. Both their booth and Hasbro’s booth displayed toy photography from a bunch of really talented guys in the community, which was, for me, one of the coolest aspects of the show, to see toy photography get some of the spotlight was really awesome.
So I guess I’ll end this by saying, congrats to all the photographers that had work up!
