We check back in with photographer Ruben Martin-Milan and challenged him to create an original series of images based around “The Doom” which features characters from across several licences and highlights Rubens development as a creative since our first feature with him several months back.
Original series by photographer Ruben Martin-Milan
I was given a key concept to work on it, which was “The Doom” so I quickly jumped into such an amazing word.
The Doom #1
If you’ve seen Star Wars there’s not much to say. I tried to represent how Vader’s actions in the past will determine Kylo’s doom, and it probably will be a tough one. Of course it’s not a masterpiece but I think that the composition manages to bring out the concept transcending the story. I may be wrong, but I’m happy with this shot!
The Doom #2
I think that a bit more work could’ve been good for this one, but I was inspired by an old Chanel ad, whose starring punched his shadow. This is a humble tribute to that idea which created a big impact on me. Since I basically imitated the idea, I think it still works.
The Doom #3
With this shot I meant to show a chaotic situation, with many things in danger at the same time. I always thought that this is a common doom for most heroes, the fact of having to intervene every-time that something is wrong. I guess sometimes, even being a powerful person, you still have to choose what to save and what to sacrifice at some point.
The Doom #4
Ok this was a slam dunk for me. Printed backgrounds are useful if you’re an indoors bug like me. This trooper is heading to an uncertain doom. Moreover, as a trooper, he knows that ultimately it won’t be easy. Sometimes we face things knowing in advance that they will be a real drag.
The Doom #5
I think that a good item present in many dooms is the nemesis. A nemesis always shows up on bad time, in fact it will never cease until it fulfills its duty. It doesn’t matter if you’re tired or not when it comes down to a proper nemesis! Goku is facing his own one, which keeps walking towards him while he’s recovering some breath.
The Doom #6
This one is pretty self explanatory I guess. Someone facing an enemy and the battleground is full of dead bodies. If you’ve seen DBZ, you know whose doom this is.
I’d like to give some quick special thanks. Of course to my family and my girl for obvious reasons! Thank you so much to @amatoyphotography for being the first community that started supporting my shots that fuelled me to keep shooting. Of course, thanks to all the great people behind the accounts that follow my feed, especially those who never miss a like and have kind words to my humble shots. I’d like to give thank my buddies @argail69, @rulomallol and @shakem78 who are always quick to benchmark some ideas with me, and have been really helpful to deliver them here today. Finally, to all the great artists that always make my mind blow away and get inspired.
Another incredible series from Ruben showing his versatility with a whole breadth of characters and licences that culminates in one well rounded series so a huge thank you goes to Ruben for taking the time and effort to curate the shoot exclusively for exclucollective.com .
